Believe it or not, nice weather is just around the corner! 

And with it come dock projects and the desire to fully enjoy our beautiful lakeshores and waterways.

The municipality would like to remind residents of the regulations applicable to riparian zones:

• All properties must maintain a vegetated riparian buffer zone of 10 to 15 meters, depending on the slope.
• Only one access point to the water is permitted, with a maximum width of 5 meters.
• Fires directly on the ground (including fireworks) are prohibited in the riparian zone.
• All treated wood is prohibited on the shoreline and in the riparian zone.
• A permit is required for any work on the shoreline, as well as for any renovation or new construction of a dock, even if it is prefabricated.

Water Levels UPDATE

On April 29, 2024, Yves Racine (APELL), the mayor of Blue Sea, the municipal inspector and the engineering firm (equipe Laurence) met to discuss the factors and process that the firm will take in assessing the current condition of the outflow dam/culvert of our lake. This will lead to a new design solution that will satisfy the requirements for sound water control management for Lac Long with a minimum hands-on management & maintenance.
The timeline is looking like 2-3 years until completion, estimated at roughly $400-500K. It is indeed a significant undertaking but we believe that we will have a solution that will work to maintain “stabilized” water levels for our lake all the while, minimizing environmental impacts and lake ecology. APELL will continue to work with the municipality moving forward with this project.
In the coming months the engineering firm will provide a report with recommendations and processes to consider.………Stay tuned!!
